Finney and Win Cup scores 500 wins in tension [sports]
Wincup made two moves on both sides of the first stop against Will Brown's Erebus co-driver Jack Perkins early in the race, setting up another new round victory for Triple Eight.

WinCup made good progress early on in their 88th-place entry, and the veteran took the lead in the first few laps, beating Erevers co-drivers Russell and Perkins. Wincup was about a second ahead in the 19th lap, when Grove Mustang of No. 4 Gastander spilled the left wheel on his way through the fast Dandenong Road section.
The breakaway wheel bounced back from James Moffat and Cam Waters' fifth-place Tickford Mustang, tearing the hindwings. With Tander pushed to the beach at Turn 9 sand, safety vehicles arrived and induced many early stops, and Tickford completed repairs in time to keep Moffat in the lead wrap.
Perkins managed to jump back past Wincup in all the stops, and Russell plunged from third to 10th in order after having to double stack behind Perkins.
The Rays went back to the green on lap 26, Perkins comfortably ahead of Wincup and Michael Caruso's team 18 Camaro at first, and by lap 39, Caruso's Porsche World Durability Championship ace Kevin Estre's #19 Grove Mustang easily passed turn 1. There was a change in the lead when Wincup overtook Perkins again after two laps.
When I reached Magic Lab 54, my second stop was energized. Perkins was the first of the front runners to pit and handed his car to Brown until the final. Wincup and Estre followed, and Finney returned to a comfortable effective lead as Matt Payne put the ball in for the third time after Brown.
Russell, meanwhile, performed well in his second term and entered the top six before handing it over to Brody Kostecki, who found himself in fourth place. With half race distance, kostecki entered turn 1 past Payne and then climbed back to the podium.
Finney took the third stunt lightly, and pulled nearly nine seconds to Brown before his teammate pitched for the second time in lap 87 in 2024. Finney stopped after two laps, regained the lead to Brown, and then inflated to more than 13 seconds for 10 laps.
